This week’s post is focused on providing lighthearted wedding tips during this globally chaotic time. Since you’re likely remotely working/social distancing at home with your loved ones, use this time for good: start solidifying your wedding playlist! It’s easy to fall into the trap of outdated and overplayed songs (*cough* Wagon Wheel *cough*). With a little work to figure out your preferences though, you can avoid hosting a boring reception.

Let’s back up for a second. There are two things many studies on the internet can justify for you: music can significantly affect your emotions and exercise can improve your mood. Where do we see these two things connecting most prominently for weddings? You got it–the reception!

These studies demonstrate that listening to positive music may be an effective way to improve happiness, particularly when it is combined with an intention to become happier.

While you work from home, take advantage of the casual space by playing whatever music you want aloud. Use the freedom to experiment! Maybe you typically listen to The Lumineers radio station at work because they’re ~chill~ and unlikely to use excessive profanity, but you’re likely to stumble across some audio gems by branching out. For example, you could start by listening to a top hits station before selecting a specific song’s or artist’s station. Then, keep following the wormhole to uncover new jams. Seriously, use your WFH to experiment with music and add everything you don’t hate to a potential wedding playlist.

If you go with a DJ or band, they will likely ask you for a list of must play songs along with banned ones. The new playlist you’re going to make for yourself while you WFH will help you tremendously here. Why? Because you’ll already have something specific compiled! Help your future self while spicing up your remote work experience.

As far as the banned songs go, an evening with some wine and your besties will help you identify those quickly. If you’re struggling for no-go ideas, lucky for you loads of people already vented their own lists on the web. We recommend a quick Google search to see which tunes consistently irk other people.

We aren’t saying you have to throw it back to 2013 with your happy music choices, but… Maybe you should.

Hold tight for Part II of this series next week, which will address how to add variety to more specific wedding moments. Contact us for more information about our venue AND access to our Preferred Vendor list. It has some really phenomenal DJs and bands listed! And in the meantime, we hope you have lots of jam seshes and dance parties to brighten your home! Stay safe & well.
