Event Prepping: Dancing at Home, Part I

Whether you’re from the new TikTok era or the original Footloose days, you know how quickly dances grow in popularity–especially if a dance is repetitive, known by your friends, and set to a catchy song. Dancing offers a way to have fun in the moment while adding to your box of party tricks for the future. So if you’re looking for creative ways to wedding prep, bond with your siblings, or just move, consider lightly hopping onto the TikTok bandwagon. Not only will you find unique, short dances–and lots of misc. content depending on your account preferences–you will likely find new music, too. Our former posts for “Adding Variety to Your Wedding Playlists,” Part I and Part II, suggest more ways to musically branch out.

As someone from the Vine generation, I had to do a little research about how to use TikTok and what’s happening with the app circulation-wise. I won’t dive into all the nitty gritty details for that here, but you should know that individual users create their own TikTok dances and post them multiple times before other users start replicating them. Also, one of the best ways to fine-tune your new TikTok account for dancing is to add “#dancetutorials” to your Favorites. Or, avoid all the app nonsense and watch TikToks on YouTube.

Dancing in Your Bathroom Mirror: A Few Popular TikToks

  • From what I’ve been told, the “Renegade” is the easiest dance that’s currently trending. The dance is set to “Lottery” by K Camp, and a tutorial can be found here.
  • “7 Rings” is another trending dance, set to a remixed version of Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings.” Dances are easier if you already know the song, right? Follow along with the tutorial here.
  • Remember jamming to Ciara and Chamillionare’s song “Get Up” after hearing it on Step Up for the first time? Good news: TikTok made that song relevant again with a new dance.

Those three should be enough to get you started on your TikTok journey, and your Gen Z connections will gladly help you find more.

Have you thought about incorporating a short and sweet flash mob into your special event? TikTok dances could be exactly what you need. By learning these short dances, you will hopefully find immediate entertainment and have a new dance to perform at your wedding, next birthday party, or whenever the time seems right. Coming next soon, Part II will cover more about dancing at home. We hope you are all happy and well!

Which dance will you try first? Let us know!
